It is important to correctly identify mice and rats as the approach needed to treat each is different.
If you haven’t seen a mouse, there are lots of signs they are present in your house or flat. If you have a mouse infestation you will notice small black droppings about the size of a grain of rice. These are often first noticed in cupboards, under the kitchen sink in the boiler cupboard or loft. A single mouse can leave approximately 80 droppings per day. You may also smell the ammonia from their urine.
Other signs include dark grey marks on surfaces left by the oils in mouse fur, damage to food packages and gnaw marks. To maintain the length of their teeth, they will gnaw continuously on whatever they find. In your home or business premises this could include your woodwork, electric cables, water and even gas pipes. The damage caused can be costly.

As well as the damage they can cause through their gnawing, mice can spread diseases such as Salmonella and Listeria through their urine, droppings and bedding. They will mark their territory with their urine and build nests near food sources which brings a risk of food poisoning. They can also transmit dirt and bacteria onto your counter tops, cabinets and anywhere else they travel. It is important to deal with a mouse problem quickly and then take preventative measures to stop them from entering your home again in the future.
